Dr George S. Motto, MD
A
native of Chicago, IL, Dr. Motto attended Chicago’s Loyola
University Stritch School of Medicine graduating in 1966. After
post graduate training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology
and Metabolism at the University of Illinois-West Side VA Medical
Center, Chicago, and the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, (interrupted
by two years in the United States Air Force as Chief of Internal
Medicine at Reese AFB Hospital, Texas), he entered private
practice in the Chicago area July 1, 1974. At that time, he
was one of Chicago’s first Board Certified Endocrinology
and Metabolism specialists.
A pioneer in the treatment of metabolic diseases in private
practice, Dr. Motto has always limited his endeavors exclusively
to these disorders. His special interests are overweight, obesity,
and lifestyle management for the treatment and prevention of
disease as well as Diabetes (Type 1 & 2). He strongly believes
that a healthy lifestyle, on a personal and community wide
basis, is the only way to deal with overweight and obesity
(plus its co-morbidities), which are this nation’s major
public health problem.
For the past 18 years Dr. Motto has been helping patients
attain and maintain a healthy weight as the Medical Director
of Weight & Risk Factor Management, an HMR™ Program, at
Alexian Brothers Medical Center (ABMC), Elk Grove Village,
IL.
Still very active in the field of Diabetes education and
management, Dr. Motto is the Medical Director of Diabetes
Services at Northwest Community Hospital (NWCH), Arlington
Heights, IL and a member of the Leadership Council as well
as a past President of the Northern Illinois Area of the
American Diabetes Association (ADA).
With NWCH and ABMC, he is working locally to promote a healthier
lifestyle in an effort to prevent overweight and obesity
in children and the general population. Dr. Motto has also
teamed up with the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation and CLOCC
(The Consortium to Lower Obesity in Chicago’s Children)
to help develop programs that hopefully will prevent and
treat obesity in the Chicago metro area.
Dr. Motto founded The Metabolism, Weight, and Lifestyle Institute,
Ltd., Brock Plaza, Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk grove
Village, IL to further spread his message, to educate the public,
patients and other healthcare professionals, and to conduct
research related to the treatment and prevention of overweight,
obesity, and disease through lifestyle management..
A Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine (Endocrinology
and Metabolism) at the UIC College of Medicine, Chicago, Dr.
Motto and his wife, Kathy, have lived in Chicago’s northwest
suburbs for 27 years.
Our Philosophy
Dr. Motto founded the Metabolism, Weight, & Lifestyle
Institute, Ltd. as a vehicle to help promulgate his philosophy
that an individual’s lifestyle is the foundation for
his/her good health. Dr. Motto believes that despite what physical
or other problems a person has, the maintenance of, or achievement
of, a healthy weight (as determined by medical standards) using
nutritionally sound caloric intake and daily physical activity
can help tremendously. The side effect of such a healthy lifestyle
is an improvement in both the quality and longevity of our
lives by the prevention and treatment of lifestyle related
diseases such as cancer, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure,
sleep apnea, blood fat disorders, heart disease, and arthritis
plus many others. Weight & Risk Factor Management,
an HMR™ Program at Alexian Brothers Medical Center embodies and implements
Dr. Motto’s beliefs.
