More Info About
Weight & Risk Factor Management, an HMR™ Program
-
Designed especially for you if you have 30 or
more pounds to lose – our patients range in weight from ~30 lbs
overweight (BMI of 30 - 32) to 400 lbs overweight (BMI of 50 – 60).
If you have less than 30 pounds to lose, you may qualify to join –
contact us.
-
During the weight loss phase of this program
you’ll consume exclusively great tasting, medication free,
nutritious HMR™ meal replacements – shakes, Benefit Bars, and
entrees. Scientific studies have repeatedly shown that the use of
meal replacements as a structured diet significantly aids weight
loss and weight loss maintenance.
-
The “no brainer” structure of this diet will
result in you achieving a rapid, safe, efficient weight loss of 2 –
5 pounds per week depending on your starting weight. This degree of
weight loss is very inspiring and will motivate you to remain in the
weight loss phase long enough to lose an average of 50 – 60 pounds.
“Remember, you cannot keep off weight that you do not first lose,”
says Dr. Motto, “therefore, you must participate in an effective
program such as this to lose all those pounds that you desperately
need and want to keep off.”
-
You’ll attend weekly group meetings (plus receive
phone calls on non-meeting days) run by experienced health educators
who are expert in the teaching and personal coaching techniques
necessary to keep you on your diet and to impart to you the
behavioral lifestyle changes necessary to not only lose but keep off
your lost weight. Our patients find that our group meetings are
better than individual sessions and the most effective way for them
to learn and change their behaviors.
-
You’ll learn to change those behaviors that have
resulted in you being overweight by using HMR™’s proven, effective,
behavior modification program which stresses physical activity,
calorie counting, record keeping, and environmental control – all
behaviors which have been shown to correlate with not only weight
loss but also weight loss maintenance. In other words, these new
learned behaviors can help you keep the weight off.
-
Before joining our program, you will have a
physician-conducted health risk appraisal which includes a history,
physical examination, and laboratory testing (blood fats,
cholesterol, thyroid function, metabolic profile) all of which will
be discussed with you by Dr. Motto. After the health risk appraisal,
your medical supervision will consist of weekly nurse visits plus
weekly doctor visits, as necessary, depending on your BMI (Body Mass
Index) and associated medical or other conditions.
-
With weight loss you’ll experience a dramatic
improvement in overweight and obesity related conditions such as:
the feeling of being unhealthy, the feeling of your life being out
of control, sleep apnea, heart disease, high blood pressure, high
blood fats (cholesterol), diabetes and high blood sugars, arthritis,
joint, and muscle problems. You’ll also realize a significant
improvement in your general ability to get around and to lead a
full, satisfying, healthy life.
-
The weight loss phase is followed by an
essentially open-ended weight maintenance phase (18 + months) during
which you will put into practice the needed behaviors to maintain
your weight loss under the guidance of behavioral health educators
during weekly group sessions. This phase is also highly structured
and critically important for long term weight loss maintenance. As
Dr. Motto says, “Weight loss is not a cure for overweight and
obesity but only the first step in a life-long weight management
effort.”
