Teens 4 Health

Teenage obesity can become a serious medical problem than if not managed will only get worse and can rob those inflicted by it to live with the early onset of serious chronic disease, such as heart disease, diabetes and respiratory problems. The Metabolism, Weight & Lifestyle Institute feels strongly that learning and practicing behavioral strategies to manage calories intake and increase physical activity has a huge positive impact on long term quality of life. MWLI provides outpatient clinical services to teach these important strategies to over-weight and obese adolescents.

MWLI provides outpatient clinical services to treat over-weight and obese adolescents ranging in age of 13 to 18 years old. Treatment includes an initial physical with Dr. George Motto and weekly behavioral strategy meetings with MWLI's experienced Health Educator. The personal weekly follow-up and goal setting have helped many MWLI participants to (very importantly) "stick to the plan" and stay on track long enough to have significant weight loss. The same diet and physical activity strategies used for weight loss in many ways are the same strategic behaviors to use life long for healthy weight management.

Teens 4 Health behavioral goals are as follows:

  • To identify the relationship between health and weight.
  • To understand that weight problems in adolescents if not treated usually progress to higher levels of obesity in adulthood most often leading to the early onset of major chronic illness such as, diabetes, heart disease, respiratory problems and mobility problems.
  • To learn that modifying behaviors around caloric intake and physical activity output is the only solution for long term weight control.
  • To learn that the environment plays a large role in what we decide to eat and how much.
  • To identify that modern day life for most includes very little physical activity.
  • To identify that only with conscientious commitment, specific planning, calorie reducing strategies and increased physical activity strategies can we manage to lose weight and keep it off long term.
